Enrollment Info/Class Descriptions
To enroll at Spirit Express you may call the gym and sign up. When enrolling, you need to fill out three forms and you will need to pick up a gym manual as well.
BASIC CLASS GUIDELINES for ARTISTIC GYMNASTIC CLASSES
Before learning a cartwheel our beginning athletes will develop strength, agility, good listening, and developmental skills.
Floor – learn all body positions, forward rolls, straddle rolls, backbend holds, balancing skills, body awareness, jumps, work on cartwheel drills and handstand drills, basic dance, work on back rolls, step turns, step high kicks, jump from one foot to another (leap), headstands (tripods) |

| Bars – swing, hang with straight legs and bring toes to the bar and hold, hang in tuck position, pull chin up to the bar and hold | ![]() |
| Beam – walk forward/backward/sideways, walk on tiptoes, mount, step forward and turn on tiptoes, tuck sit, balance on one foot, straight jump on beam, straight jump off the beam | ![]() |
Vault – running, straight jump onto an 8 in mat, straight jump off an 8 in mat, jumping on the spring board

| Trampoline/Tumble Track – jump feet apart and together, jumping on two feet, jumping on one foot, tuck jumps, straddle jumps, pike jumps, #1 jumps, #2 jumps, seat drops, doggy drop, stomach drops | ![]() |
ONCE THE CARTWHEEL IS MASTERED
Floor – cartwheels, one-handed cartwheels, handstands, headstand, backbend hold one leg/arm up, round-off, power hurdle, leaps, turns, handstand rolls, back rolls
Bars – pull up, hold front support, cast back to a stand, straddle swing to stand
Beam – tuck jump, roll, half turn, scale, high kicks, ice cream scoop, split jump, begin working leaps
Vault – handstand flat backs, running handstand flatbacks, kangaroo hops
After accomplishing most of the skills mentioned above, athletes will move to more advanced classes.
ALL TUMBLING CLASSES
Work on Floor, Tumble Track, and Trampoline only
handstands, cartwheels, roundoffs, back extension rolls, backbend kickovers, front limbers, back & front walkovers, front handsprings, back handsprings, aerials, back & front tucks, back pike, back wips, back layouts, front tuck step outs, front pikes, x-outs, series tumbling (alternating skills) doubles & twists, etc….
HOW TO MAKE A COMPETITIVE SQUAD
In order to make a competitive team, our coaching staff must evaluate all athletes! Gymnasts are evaluated throughout their recreational classes and cheer tryouts are held each year for our cheer teams.
